Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The U.S. is expected to remove North Korea from its list of states that sponsor terrorism, according to unnamed sources at the State Department.
The decision is part of a proposed deal being ironed out by Washington and Pyongyang. Under the deal, North Korea will submit to nuclear verification protocols in return for its removal from the terror blacklist.
The sources at the State Department said the deal was discussed during a meeting of State Secretary Condoleezza Rice with government agencies on Thursday. They said Rice will announce Friday the delisting of North Korea after a fruitful inspection mission by U.S. negotiator Christopher Hill in the reclusive communist state recently.
North Korea has announced it is resuming its nuclear program because the U.S. still recognizes it as a sponsor of terrorism.
