Washington, D.C. (AHN) - U.S. troops in Afghanistan crossed into Pakistan Wednesday to raid a village suspected as a hideout of Taliban insurgents. Pakistan's foreign ministry protested the uncoordinated attack that allegedly killed 15 civilians.
Pentagon officials who spoke on condition of not being identified confirmed to CNN that U.S. helicopters dropped troops in Angoor Adda in South Waziristan without consent from the Pakistani government. An unnamed U.S. official also said the American troops were looking for suspects in the attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan when they were fired upon forcing them to return fire.
Islamabad ordered its U.S. ambassador in Washington to file a formal protest with the U.S. government, according to Pakistani's Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The minister said the incursion and killing of innocent civilians violated international humanitarian norms.
