Islamabad, Pakistan (AHN) - A U.S. diplomat in Pakistan, her driver and a bodyguard were unharmed after gunmen fired on their armored car in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday.

The ambush on Consul-General Lynne Tracy while she was being driven to the U.S. consulate was the first on an American diplomat in the capital of the insurgency-plagued North West Frontier Province.

The gunmen came from a Toyota Land Cruiser that blocked Tracy's car, which had just left the official's home. The bullets did not penetrate the armor of Tracy's car or missed her. The alert driver quickly reversed the car to escape from the gunmen, who did not follow them.

While reversing, the car hit a rickshaw and hurt its driver, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No one has claimed responsibility for the ambush.
