Miami (AHN) Hurricane Bertha is slowly losing strength and has dropped to a Category 2 storm. Bertha's winds have dropped to 105 mph, as it turns northwest toward Bermuda at 12 mph.

The advisory said Bertha is 660 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and about 975 miles southeast of Bermuda. NHC warned residents to monitor Bertha's path and progress.

According to the National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. advisory, Bertha has encountered a high shear environment and is dissipating. Another factor is that the front is moving over cooler water, which is also slowing it's intensity. The front is moving at 12 mph. Due to the hostile environment, Bertha should continue to weaken in the short-term, the NHC said. The advisor predicted that toward the end of the forecast period there is the potential for a little re-intensification.
