Bogota, Colombia (AHN) - A U.S. cargo plane transporting flowers to Miami, Florida from Colombia crashed near the capital Bogota on Monday killing two people on the ground and injuring all eight crewmembers aboard.

The two male fatalities live in a ranch in Madrid village, where the Boeing 747 operated by Kalitta Air of Ypsilanti, Michigan crashed at 3:50 a.m.. The injured crewmembers were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

One of the engines of the plane caught fire before the plane lost communication with air traffic controllers, Donald Tascon, deputy director of Colombia's civil aviation agency, told RCN radio.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, the second involving a Kalitta aircraft. On May 25, a Boeing 747 of the company broke apart in Brussels, Belgium during an aborted takeoff.
