New Delhi, India (AHN) - At least seven people were killed and several others injured when a four-storey under-construction building collapsed in the capital, New Delhi on Saturday, police said.
Most of the casualties were the laborers who were engaged in illegally constructing the building to live in and their family members, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported quoting police.
Five were declared brought dead at the hospital while two others later succumbed to their injuries, police said, adding that At least 33 persons were taken out of the debris of the building in New Usmanpur locality in Seelampur of New Delhi.
The workers did not have the necessary building permit from the authorities, police said according to reports.
The municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD) has instituted a vigilance inquiry into the incident to be headed by the chief vigilance officer and has suspended an Assistant Engineer and a Joint Engineer for alleged dereliction of duty, spokesman for the civic body Deep Mathur told the news agency.
